The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has announced that over 98 per cent of taxpayers who accessed their Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) through the newly introduced national portal described the process as smooth and hassle-free.
This was made known in a statement released on Monday titled, “Taxpayers Thumbs-up New Tax ID Portal, as JRB Races on With Implementation of Tax Reforms.”
The Tax ID portal, jointly operated by the Joint Revenue Board and the Nigeria Revenue Service, officially went live on January 1, 2026, serving as the country’s unified taxpayer database.
Through the platform, individuals can generate a unique 13-digit Tax ID using their National Identity Number (NIN), while businesses are able to retrieve theirs using registration numbers issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission and other authorised government bodies.
The initiative is designed to consolidate previously scattered taxpayer records across federal and state systems into a single database. The move aims to boost coordination, strengthen revenue administration, and improve data protection.

According to the statement, user feedback was gathered via a structured questionnaire shared on Facebook, X, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as through telephone interviews. The survey focused on individuals and organisations that had attempted to retrieve their Tax IDs and sought to evaluate their experience with the portal.
The Head of the JRB Help Desk team, Mr. Effiong Abasifreke, explained that respondents were asked four key questions covering speed, ease of navigation, convenience, and overall user satisfaction.
He said in the statement, “We asked the taxpayers four questions. The questions were, ‘how fast was your tax ID retrieval process?’, ‘was the portal simple and easy to navigate?’, ‘did you find the process convenient?’, and ‘how would you rate the portal from your personal experience?’”
Abasifreke added, “At the end of the poll, we collated all the responses and analysed them. More than 98 per cent of the respondents said they had a seamless experience retrieving their Tax ID.”
The survey included both individual and corporate taxpayers.
Among the respondents, Amina Yahaya from Abuja shared her experience, saying, “The process was very seamless. It didn’t take up to 10 seconds after I input my NIN details when my Tax ID popped up on the screen. I want to commend [JRB] because this is seamless. I will tell my friends and colleagues to retrieve their Tax ID.”
Another user on X, Adedapo (@_aaadedapo), described the experience as “seamless for me.”
A Lagos-based taxpayer, Oyedemi Jide, remarked that the portal was “simple and easy to use,” while Tonai R., who responded via WhatsApp, stated, “it was so quick to use, very easy, no inconveniences, awesome.”
Corporate organisations also expressed satisfaction with the system. Trinity Music Academy described the process as fast and convenient, adding that the experience “was amazing.” Succinct Shortlet also noted that “the platform was convenient and had a fast-loading time.”
Speaking on the nationwide rollout, the Executive Secretary of the JRB, Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, encouraged taxpayers who have not yet retrieved their Tax IDs to do so through the official portal.
He explained that the system operates as a self-service platform and incorporates strong data protection measures in line with the regulations of the Nigerian Data Protection Commission.
Adesokan further addressed concerns that financial institutions might use the new Tax ID framework to deduct funds arbitrarily from customers’ bank accounts, dismissing such claims.
He added, “Let me reiterate that the tax reforms were well-conceived and they are pro-poor and pro-growth. The reforms have provided a lot of incentives for low-income earners and all categories of taxpayers and businesses.”
According to him, the rollout of the reforms is already underway at both federal and state levels, with the JRB collaborating with relevant partner agencies to ensure effective implementation.
The Board also appealed for sustained public cooperation, stressing that continued engagement with taxpayers is essential to the success of the reforms and the creation of a more transparent and coordinated revenue system across the country.
