    The Federal Government (FG) has inaugurated the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Agreement.

    The move is designed to ensure a transparent, complete, and timely execution of all provisions contained in the pact while fostering long-term industrial harmony within the nation’s public university system.

    The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja on Monday, was announced via an official press release signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations for the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade.

    Addressing attendees at the event, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, described the committee’s activation as a critical milestone toward cementing stability within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.

    According to the minister, the IMCโ€™s core mandate includes monitoring compliance with the agreement, tracking adherence to specified timelines and deliverables, and maintaining continuous stakeholder engagement.

    She highlighted that the successful resolution of prior negotiations stands as a testament to the willingness of both the FG and ASUU to prioritize constructive dialogue, mutual respect, and systemic, sustainable academic reforms.

    Echoing the minister’s sentiments, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abel Enitan, stated that the inauguration represents a major advancement in building robust governance and accountability frameworks within the education sector.

    He urged the newly appointed committee members to carry out their duties with high levels of professionalism and strict objectivity.


    In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Chairman of the IMC, Olarewaju Tejuoso, pledged that the panel would approach its supervisory role with maximum diligence and transparency.

    Responding to the development, the President of ASUU, Chris Piwuna, emphasised the need for continuity, urging the committee to maintain sustained engagement and schedule regular meetings to prevent any administrative lapses.

    The FG reinforced its commitment to honoring the terms of the 2025 agreement, reassuring students, parents, and institutional staff of its dedication to maintaining uninterrupted academic calendars across all Nigerian universities.
