Achraf Hakimi faces potential 15-year jail term as French prosecutors request trial

Achraf Hakimi could face up to 15 years in jail if found guilty of rape.

Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi may be heading to trial, as French prosecutors officially request criminal proceedings in a rape case that has lingered for over a year.

The Moroccan defender, who has maintained his innocence since the beginning, now risks a 15-year prison sentence if found guilty.

According to Le Parisien, the request was formally submitted to the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court, following an extensive investigation that began in early 2023. Though the move does not equate to a conviction, it signals that the Nanterre prosecutor’s office believes there is enough evidence to prosecute.

Back in March 2023, Hakimi was charged by an investigating judge after being taken into custody. He was subsequently placed under judicial supervision – a measure that restricted his movements and engagements as the probe deepened. Despite this, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan defender has consistently denied all allegations.

Moreover, the legal move, signed on August 1st, marks a turning point in the controversial saga. While it remains uncertain whether the court will proceed with a full trial, the prosecutors’ confidence in the case raises serious concerns for the 25-year-old.

In addition, the nature of the case means both Hakimi and his legal team are expected to ramp up efforts to clear his name. Yet, with public scrutiny mounting and legal momentum gathering, the spotlight will remain firmly fixed on him and the upcoming court decision.

For now, the footballer continues to train with PSG, although the shadow of potential legal action looms large.
