The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigerian administrator Samson Adamu as acting General Secretary. This follows the resignation of Véron Mosengo‑Omba, who stepped down from the role on March 29, 2026.

Adamu, who previously served as CAF’s Director of Football Development, becomes the first Nigerian to hold the continent’s top administrative football position. His appointment takes immediate effect.
Mosengo‑Omba’s departure comes after just over two years in the role. He was appointed in early 2024 following a period of administrative restructuring under CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Adamu brings extensive experience in African football development. Moreover, he has been a key figure in CAF’s club licensing and youth development programmes. He also previously served as General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation during the 2010s.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe thanked Mosengo‑Omba for his service. Additionally, he expressed confidence in Adamu’s ability to lead the secretariat through the upcoming period.
