Chelsea‘s French defender Wesley Fofana may be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old centre-back sustained the injury during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on December 1. Fofana was hurt while stepping on the ball during a challenge against Villa striker Ollie Watkins.k
Before the setback, Fofana had been a key player for the Blues, starting 12 of their 13 Premier League matches. His only absence prior to the injury was due to a suspension.
Initially, Blues boss Enzo Maresca estimated that Fofana would be out for “at least three, four, five weeks.” However, Maresca has now confirmed the injury is far worse than expected.

“Unfortunately, he could be out for the season,” Maresca admitted, calling the situation a “big blow.” Despite the seriousness of the injury, Fofana does not require surgery at this stage.
This development leaves Chelsea with a significant defensive void as they navigate the remainder of their campaign. Maresca and the team will now need to explore ways to adapt without their reliable centre-back.
So far, Tosin Adarabioyo has replaced Fofana in the first team. The ex-Fulham man has played his position in most of the matches the Frenchman has missed.
