R&B star Chris Brown was arrested in the early hours of Thursday at a luxury hotel in Manchester, England, in connection with an alleged violent nightclub attack that occurred in February 2023.
Multiple reports indicate that the 36-year-old singer was taken into custody just after 2 a.m. at The Lowry Hotel by Metropolitan Police detectives, who said the arrest was linked to an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, where Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw.
Police confirmed his arrest in a statement that reads: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains.
“The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

Diaw alleges that Brown launched an unprovoked attack, smashing a bottle—reportedly Don Julio 1942 tequila—over his head, and then punching, kicking, and stomping on him.
“He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well,” Diaw told The Sun, adding that he lost consciousness and had to be hospitalized.
In October 2023, Diaw filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, claiming the singer inflicted “severe and lasting injuries” during the club assault.
He described the incident as “ruthless,” saying Brown kicked him in the back of the neck, leaving him unconscious for about 30 seconds.
The arrest comes just weeks before Brown’s scheduled Breezy Bowl XX Tour, including major performances in Manchester to mark his 20-year music career.
This latest incident adds to the singer’s long history of legal troubles.
