President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, on his party’s victory in the United Kingdom general election.

Starmer, who won the UK general election will become the next prime minister of the country.

As a former leader of the opposition in Nigeria, Tinubu acknowledged the determination and courage demonstrated by the incoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom throughout his years in opposition and as the leader of the Labour Party.

In a statement, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, said that the President noted the party’s ability to reform, mobilize, and position itself for victory after 14 years clearly affirms Sir Starmer’s leadership qualities.

President Tinubu also congratulated the citizens and government of the United Kingdom, describing the country as an enduring model of democracy and a long-standing partner of Nigeria.

The President looks forward to deepening relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in mutual areas of interest, strengthening democratic institutions, and building a safer and more prosperous future for the people of both countries.
