Randy Waldrum has stepped down from his role as Head Coach of Nigeria’s women senior football team, the Super Falcons.
The American penned his official resignation in a letter dated September 12, 2024. His main reason for quitting, according to the letter, was because of his wife’s health issues.
“It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that,” part of the resignation letter read.

Waldrum worked with an “incredible squad”
“After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons.
“This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
The 67-year-old guided Nigeria to the Round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. He also led the team to the Paris 2024 Olympics – Nigeria’s first participation in 16 years.
Prior to last year’s Women’s World Cup, Waldrum made an open criticism of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over non-professional approaches to certain matters.
There were times his relationship with his employers appeared cold and frosty. However, Nigerians have expressed satisfaction over Waldrum’s coaching style as they believe he was disciplined and assembled an incredible team.
Waldrum was appointed coach of the Super Falcons in 2020, replacing Swedish football manager Thomas Dennerby.
