On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu said the nationwide protest set to begin on August 1 and last for ten days is driven by anger and hate.

Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement, said he warned that the protest could escalate into violence and hinder the country’s progress.

Mr Tinubu emphasised that the organisers of the protests prioritise their selfish interests over the national good.

“The sponsors of these protests do not truly care for our country. They lack a genuine love for the nation and do not comprehend the essence of citizenship. They possess alternative passports and are meeting virtually from various locations around the world. We must avoid turning Nigeria into a situation like Sudan.

“We are facing issues of hunger, not burials. We need to proceed with caution. We should be wary of premature politics, characterized by hate and anger. The internet has enabled meetings in artificial environments, allowing them to convene and incite anger,” PresidentTinubu said.
