The Federal Government (FG), through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has announced plans to establish a digital hub in Benin City, Edo State, aimed at boosting broadcasting, content creation, and skit-making.
NBC Director-General, Charles Ebuebu, revealed this initiative during a courtesy visit to Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Edo State Government House.
He stated that the NBC would collaborate with the Edo State Government and the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) to provide a platform for youth content creators to thrive.
Governor Monday Okpebholo welcomed the partnership, commending the NBC for recognising Edoās potential.
He assured that his administration would create an enabling environment to ensure the success of the initiative.
“Edo is a home of history and culture. We have everything here. Your decision to partner with us shows that you recognize the progress we are making in Edo State,” Okpebholo said.

He further assured that the state government would provide the necessary support to enhance broadcasting, empower youth, and promote digital content development.
NBC Director-General Ebuebu highlighted that the partnership aligns with the commissionās mandate of digital switch-over, which aims to modernize broadcasting, improve signal clarity, and create more opportunities for content monetization.
“We have talented youths with so much content but no platform to showcase their work. Through this collaboration, EBS will serve as a viable platform for them to break into the industry, not just in Nigeria but globally,” Ebuebu said.
He emphasised that Edo is the first state in Nigeria to benefit from this groundbreaking partnership, which aims to empower young content creators, skit makers, and media professionals.
Managing Director of EBS, Sulaiman Aledeh, praised the Okpebholo administration for its commitment to media development.
He noted that in less than 100 days, the government had revived the EBS station in Ihievbe, Edo North, which had been inactive for over a decade.
“This is the first time a regulator has come to partner with us, and itās because of the roadmap set by Governor Okpebholo. Our revived Ihievbe station will also focus on promoting Edo language and Pidgin, adding a unique touch to our broadcasts,” Aledeh stated.
