Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, stated that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, did not propose N105,000 as the new minimum wage.
On Thursday afternoon, the news surfaced after Mr Edun submitted various national minimum wage options and their projected cost implications to President Tinubu.
NRTC earlier reported that Mr Edun presented the projected cost implications following Tinubu’s directive to provide a template for new minimum wage figures and an associated cost analysis within 48 hours.

This directive was issued after the organised labour embarked on a strike, which was later suspended to allow for further negotiations.
The organised labour had initially proposed N615,500 and then N494,000 as the new national minimum wage, figures that the government deemed unrealistic.
Following the rejection of these proposals, the labour unions went on strike, also protesting the government’s refusal to reverse the electricity tariff hike.
In a statement shared on his X page on Thursday, Mr Onanuga declared that the news was false.
He tweeted: “The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false.”
