Wimbledon men’s singles champion Carlos Alcaraz has congratulated Spain on winning the Euro 2024 tournament after beating England on Sunday.

Nico Williams scored before substitute Cole Palmer pulled one back for the Three Lions. However, Marc Cucurella’s low cross into the box was converted by Mikel Oyarzabal for the match winner in the 86th.

Following the stupendous victory, Alcaraz took to social media outlet ‘X’ to celebrate Spain’s Euro 2024 success.

“CAMPEONES! 🇪🇸 CAMPEONES! 🇪🇸 CAMPEONES! 🇪🇸 Qué grandes sois @SEFutbol!!! ❤️ Vaya espectáculo de Eurocopa,” Alcaraz posted.

English translation

“CHAMPIONS! 🇪🇸 CHAMPIONS! 🇪🇸 CHAMPIONS! 🇪🇸 How great you are @SEFutbol!!! ❤️ What a Euro Cup spectacle”.

Double joy for Spain

Alcaraz, a Spanish himself, had won his second Wimbledon men’s singles title in two years earlier in the day.

The 21-year-old defeated veteran Novak Djokovic – his opponent last year as well – in three sets 6-2 6-2 7-6. The win is Alcaraz’s fourth Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz indeed strolled past the men’s all-time leader in Grand Slam victories during the title rematch.

Djokovic, who has 24 Grand Slam singles championships, is at the advanced tennis age of 37. It is getting obvious that title opportunities are likely to be harder to come by in the coming years.

Two years ago, Alcaraz won his first Slam title at the U.S. Open as a teenager. No man ever has collected more Grand Slams before turning 22 than he has.

Meanwhile, possibility abounds that Alcaraz and Djokovic could lock horns again in the coming weeks.

Both players are already confirmed to take part in this year’s Olympics. Djokovic claimed bronze during the Beijing 2008 Olympics, while Alcaraz would be appearing in his first Olympic sports festival.
