The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a staff member of the University of Benin, Segun Adedeji, before Justice E. G. Adekanmbi of the Edo State High Court on a four‑count charge bordering on fraudulent practices amounting to ₦3,285,396.
In a statement released by its Benin Zonal Directorate, EFCC said intelligence gathering revealed that Adedeji was drawing salaries simultaneously from the University of Benin and the National Orthopedic Hospital, Benin City.
“The suspect fraudulently received salaries from two government institutions, thereby causing financial loss to the Federal Government,” EFCC stated.

The case was filed under Operation Clean Payroll, with prosecutors alleging that Adedeji knowingly concealed his dual employment to continue receiving payments.
Justice Adekanmbi ordered that the accused be remanded pending trial, while the case was adjourned for further hearing.
EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling payroll fraud and ensuring accountability in public institutions.
