The Federal Government has introduced a new consumer credit initiative known as “Fly Now, Pay Later” to make domestic air travel more affordable for Nigerians.

The programme was announced on Tuesday by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, which shared details of the initiative on its official X account.

According to the agency, the scheme will enable qualified customers to book domestic flights and repay the cost in instalments through a structured financing arrangement.

CREDICORP explained that the initiative is intended to address the financial burden that prevents many Nigerians from taking important trips due to the high upfront cost of flight tickets.

“Through this initiative, eligible customers can book domestic flights today and repay the cost over time through structured financing, removing the upfront barrier that often delays important trips,” the statement read.

The corporation noted that the programme is being implemented in collaboration with MyVisaro and Alert Microfinance Bank as part of broader efforts to expand access to responsible consumer credit in the country.

Interested individuals were advised to apply through the Visaro platform by visiting visaro.ng and booking a flight to any destination within Nigeria.

“At CREDICORP, we remain committed to expanding responsible consumer credit and enabling Nigerians live better now, including flying locally. Fly now. Pay later. Opportunity shouldn’t wait,” it added.

The agency stated that the initiative is in line with its wider objective of strengthening financial inclusion and improving access to essential services through innovative credit options.

The launch comes at a time when the cost of domestic air travel in Nigeria has risen sharply, making it increasingly difficult for many citizens to afford flights despite growing demand for intercity connectivity.

During the 2025 Yuletide season, one-way ticket prices on some domestic routes reportedly increased by about 150 per cent, with fares climbing above N300,000.

Airlines have attributed the surge in ticket prices to factors such as the rising cost of aviation fuel, foreign exchange pressures, and other operational expenses.
