Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emphasised that tourism continues to play a pivotal role in his administration’s plan for economic development.
Speaking at the official launch of the Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye, Makinde highlighted the state’s strategic location and growing infrastructure as strong assets for tourism growth.
He reiterated the state’s commitment to leveraging its proximity to Lagos and expanding national connections, including plans for a regional airport in Ibadan, to boost tourism and investment.
“Our vision places tourism at the heart of Oyo’s economic revival,” the governor noted.
“With our closeness to Lagos and robust access to the rest of Nigeria, the establishment of a regional airport in Ibadan is not far off. We are clearly on the right path.”
He assured that the state government would support the newly inaugurated KAP Film Village to ensure its success. “We’re committed to doing all it takes to make sure this facility not only survives but thrives,” he said.
Makinde also extended his congratulations to award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan and his team for bringing the ambitious project to life.
“This achievement is remarkable, and I must applaud the entire Afolayan family for their dedication and vision,” he added.

The KAP Film Village, founded by renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, has already served as the production base for titles such as ‘Anikulapo, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre’, ‘Ijogbon’ and others.
Governor Makinde described the facility as a major milestone for the creative sector in Oyo State.
He welcomed Afolayan, originally from outside the state, as a proud ‘adopted son’ of Oyo, stressing his open-door policy toward individuals who bring value and innovation, regardless of origin.
“I don’t subscribe to the notion of excluding others. Anyone willing to contribute meaningfully to our progress is welcome in Oyo,” the governor affirmed.
Joining the governor at the event were the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, and the Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Shaibu Husseini, among other dignitaries.
