The Chairman of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Edward Omo-Erewa, has pledged that the agency will be repositioned to restore public trust in environmental protection and ecosystem preservation.
He made this commitment during a strategic meeting with NOSDRA board members and management staff in Abuja.
The inaugural session focused on improving regulatory capacity, efficiency, and performance, while strengthening environmental responsibility.

Constituted by President Bola Tinubu, the NOSDRA board has a mandate to provide oversight and leadership in mitigating oil spill incidents and enforcing environmental frameworks nationwide.
Omo-Erewa identified three priority areas for the agency: strengthening communication channels, fully implementing the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan, and rebuilding public trust through sustained stakeholder engagement.
He stressed that effective collaboration and accountability would be central to achieving NOSDRA’s mission of protecting Nigeria’s environment from the impact of oil spills.
