NRTC WEEKLY Highlights

Topics for This Edition: Asake and father, Obi and Bala Mohammed, Champion League quarter-final and Ijoba Lande vs wife

Entertainment: Asake and his father

Singer Asake sparked controversy on social media after his father, Fatai Odunsi, accused him of neglecting him for years. In a viral video, Odunsi alleged that Asake abandoned him and refused to pick up his calls.

Suffering from a stroke, Odunsi claimed that Asake never offered him any assistance since the incident.

He sought financial aid from the public for medical treatment, insisting that he had no choice since the singer refused to help him.

Meanwhile, Asake refuted his father’s claims in a video, maintaining that he had always sent him money. The former YBNL Nation and Empire Distribution signee stressed that he remained faithful to his father and never failed in his responsibilities as a son.

The video triggered mixed reactions on social media. While some netizens criticized the singer for neglecting his father, others argued that, regardless of the circumstances, Asake should not have abandoned him.

However, while some people condemned Asake, others defended him, claiming that he was raised by a single mother.

Politics: Obi and Bala Mohammed

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the political landscape intensified with defections and consultations among ambitious candidates.

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, met with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who declared his support for him while also hinting at a potential alliance ahead of 2027.

Mohammed, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, endorsed Obi after a closed-door meeting in Bauchi and expressed his willingness to collaborate with him to rescue Nigeria from “mediocre-parading themselves as leaders.”

Mohammed’s endorsement followed Nasir El-Rufai’s recent defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing the party’s structural collapse.

Sports: Champions League quarter-final

The Champions League quarter-final draw pitched Arsenal against Real Madrid, sparking a wave of reactions from football fans worldwide.

Football enthusiasts acknowledged Real Madrid’s legendary status in the competition, with Arsenal fans recognizing the immense challenge ahead.

Many fans expressed respect for Real Madrid’s experience and their ability to perform under pressure in crucial moments.

Despite the tough matchup, Arsenal supporters remained hopeful, believing in Mikel Arteta’s tactical brilliance and the team’s current form. Excitement built up over the high-profile clash against one of Europe’s football giants.

Fans emphasised Arsenal’s youthful and determined squad, insisting that they would give their all in the battle against Madrid.

Leading Stories: Ijoba Lande vs wife

Actor and content creator Ojoba Lande and his wife, Dara, stirred controversy on social media following allegations of infidelity.

Ijoba Lande accused his wife of having affairs with people in the movie industry and specifically named actor Baba Tee as one of them.

Baba Tee initially denied the allegations but later admitted that he had a brief encounter with Dara during a game of “Truth or Dare.”

However, Dara refuted the claims, insisting that her friend, Marygold, took her to Baba Tee’s house and that nothing happened between them.

Several content creators incorporated “Truth or Dare” into their skits, while Dara and others involved granted interviews to address the controversy.
