Chicago Certificate Saga: Tinubu should tell the world his real name – Obi

Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has once again raised concerns about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chicago University certificate and questioned his identity.

Obi called on the President to address the public and provide information about his name, nationality, place of birth, parentage, details of his primary and secondary education, along with the universities he attended and the certificates he obtained.

During a press conference in Abuja today, the former Anambra State Governor emphasized that Tinubu could have spared the nation and himself from the ongoing prolonged embarrassment and undue anxiety by answering these questions.

Obi earnestly requested Tinubu to reintroduce himself to the nation and the world to dispel any further doubts.

‘He should indicate clearly where and when he did his National Youth Service, in addition, if at any time he has had a change of name, he should clearly state so and the circumstances— that, in itself, is no crime,’ Obi opined.

Obi stated that he believes President Tinubu can complete the task in just a few minutes, without the need for affidavits, lengthy court procedures, spokespersons, agents, or proxies.

‘This task is one that only Chief Bola Tinubu himself through a direct personal statement can perform. He must perform this task urgently in order to lay to rest, once and for the last time, the many lingering doubts and valid speculations about his true identity.

‘A leader cannot outsource a clear unambiguous personal statement about his identity to political surrogates, social spokespersons, lawyers, or any other persons no matter how highly placed.’

Obi continued to emphasize that the issue of a leader’s personal identity is of paramount importance, given its close connection to the duties associated with their current office.

He asserted that this identity encompasses crucial elements such as integrity, morality, values, and adherence to the rule of law, which collectively shape the character of the nation and its people.

‘In his present capacity as a leader of a   nation of over  200 million Nigerians, his true identity is a  matter of grave national and international interest.

According to Obi, Nigerians and the international community deserve to be aware of the true identity of Tinubu, the current ruler of Nigeria, as this supersedes his right to personal privacy.

‘Having stood for an election to the elevated public office of President of the   Federal  Republic of  Nigeria,  Chief Bola  Tinubu has implicitly undertaken to cede the rights of a private citizen in favour of a life of open disclosure of his true identity, and other circumstances that may be of public interest. His personal integrity demands no less. The legitimacy of the office he currently occupies demands that much and even more. Respect for the integrity and esteem of the Nigerian nation within the community of nations makes it even more incumbent and compulsory.’
