2022 World Cup: Why you must win

Across the globe, no one cares for the pains, struggles and times sacrificed on an empty stomach to achieve, gain, and emerge victorious in a contest or competition. All human beings want is to see you win.

That’s the nature of human beings, even in the Bible “he’s our hero” was the echo when David won and made history. Israelites had no belief he would conquer Goliath with just a stone after years of defeat and suffering from him(Goliath).

To some people winning comes after several failures even King David wins was without failure. People say that failures are the stepping stones, to the best teachers.

According to scholars, failure plays an important role in a man’s life and it is paramount to explore success in other fields. “It is a sure key to many riddles— familiarize us with our weaknesses and flaws and inspire us to fight against odd occurrences.”

“Man should learn from his mistakes and strive hard to reach his destination because most of the successful people in the world failed but reach their target because failures guided them and encouraged them to try harder,” my father admonishes every day.

To attain success and win, one should shun “I give up” because the result is in the hands of the Almighty, only if we keep pushing. “Failure inspires us to work with more strength and vigor. We should not get depressed and dejected. All leaders, fighters, businessmen, and bureaucrats firmly say that failures are the pillars to success.”

I once said “I feared water. I can’t swim” now, I am a professional swimmer. After I came to know that “practice makes perfect.”

Winning makes you friend to all

Yesterday, Argentina lifted their third world cup trophy [after thirty—six years] with Lionel Messi[the greatest of all time(GOAT] as honorably called by his fans and supporters.

Messi was not only celebrated by his fans but others [including fans of Christiano Ronaldo (GOAT) as well as well-wishers) which might have resulted from the popular Yoruba saying “Ká bá olóríre yò meaning let’s rejoice with the fortunate ones”.

Messi made his World Cup debut as an 18-year-old when coming on as a substitute and scoring in Argentina’s 6-0 win over Serbia and Montenegro in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup. The Rosario native became the first Argentine to appear in five World Cups and the first player to win two golden balls.

Messi is one of only six men to have played in five World Cups alongside Antonio Carbajal, Lothar Matthaus, Rafa Marquez, Andres Guardado, and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Argentine striker has reached four knockout world cups as well as the Portuguese striker without a trophy which could be tagged as their failure times that had been preparing them to attain success [lifting the world cup].

At the 2022 world cup in Qatar, the duo reached knockout as usual but one[Ronaldo] got knocked out in the quarter-final by Morocco team and the other one[Messi] proceeded to lift the trophy yesterday making him the real GOAT( according to his fans).

There was an atmosphere of celebration at the stadium yesterday for football lovers and Argentina citizens [who have waited years] seeing their hero bringing home the glory again.

Messi “Emi lo kan” and Mbappe “Lekan si”

Blowing the final whistle yesterday by the referee(Szymon Marciniak) who officiated the match synonymous to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu announcing the winner of the February 2023 general election.

The social media went agog yesternight by the political supporters of the three main political parties, All Progressive Congress, APC, People Democratic Party, PDP, and Labour Party, LP, after the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar and Bola Ahmed Tinubu tweeted about Messi victory and Kylian Mbappe effort to lift the cup.

The Presidential candidate of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu tweeted “Emi lokan of Doha” with the tweet of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, justifying Tinubu’s slogan of “Emi lo kan” ahead of the polls.

He tweeted: “The match b/w Argentina Vs France has espoused the notion of EMILOKAN which, in its proper context, means when you’ve given your all to a cause, then you can rightly lay claim to the ultimate prize. France wanted to alter that notion, but the gods ruled in favor of Lionel Messi.”

In the same vein, the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in his tweet stated that Messi’s victory means he would never give up on his ambition to become the president of the country.

He wrote: “Congratulations, Argentina. Messi is why you must never give up, no matter the situation. He we were Saving the ultimate last for the ultimate best ® \ °.-AA #ARGFRA #FIFAWorldCup”

However, some Peter Obi supporters in the comment session of those posts noted that what transpired on the pitch yesterday shows that Obi who’s less expected will win the polls in February.

Some of their tweets: “France is the defending champion which stands for APC who are in power but they lost to Argentina(LP) who people thought won’t get to the final, this translation has traces of igbo and shayo

“France couldn’t retain the world cup, probably so also APC won’t be able to retain power beyond 2023. That’s the real interpretation of Emilokan you can’t properly give.”

As there are sixty-eight[68] days away for Nigerians matching the polls to elect who will pilot the affairs of the country for another four years, who is going to be Mbappe the ”Lekan si” or Messi “Emi lo kan” of yesterday?

What winning does

While winning and failure is not bad but there is a crucial difference between the two. As an individual, winning will bring many benefits your way.

It will also bring development and recognition to your name and your children now and shortly.

We shouldn’t forget about the development it will attract to the community, state, and the Nation at large.

More so, it will boost and increase self-esteem, confidence boost as well as strategic thinking skills.

Therefore, in all we do winning at all costs must be our ultimate goal the same way failure is inevitable.
