2023 POLLS: A tale of electoral ellipsis and security shortchange

What looked yearslong finally came to a shed end, as Nigerians in their millons marched to the polls for the perennial presidential elections on February 25, 2023. Different strokes to different folks.

To a great youthful chunk of the population, it is their long walk to freedom from the elitists’ asphyxiates; To some sizeable partisans, it is another shot at servanthood. The great critic is he who truthfully narrates his own story among hearsays.

Presence of heavy militarised ambience on election eve was the first fronter of credibility in the electioneering process.

Lo and behold, it was mere figment of fertile imagination. A charade of ignominious pretense. Same old condemnable drama of ballot snatching and disorderliness at the polls on election day.

One too many. The luminesce of freedom light went out too soon and high hopes got dashed amidst electoral inadequacies. Responsibility works hand in hand with power.

INEC ineptitude started with the story of electoral ellipsis, when a monolithic party and a strong contender in the presidential race was omitted on the ballot.

Everyone’s manner makes his fortune. And here began the first distrust in the electioneering process. Even, earthquakes are preceded by bright weathers. Why such anomalies in an already tensed Nigeria political environment? One pertinent question to ask.

INEC has declared the winner in the keenly contested 2023 presidential election despite outcry of landslide disenfranchisement and electoral irregularities, but one thing is certain- Political heavyweights now have to do twice the job, following recent shake up.

The marginalized poor masses are up from their slumber. Power is not served a la carte. It s needless to remind all that five things are requisite to a public service holder- CLEAN HANDS, ABILITY, PATIENCE, IMPARTIALITY and DESPATCH.

The newly elected President just have to be great in office. When in doubt, he should win the trick! Every author is the best judge to his performance, but to the publican, the citizens adjudge. May Nigeria be great again.
