2024 Paralympics: Onyinyechi Mark wins Nigeria’s first Gold after smashing her own World Record

Onyinyechi Mark has won Nigeria’s first Gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics by smashing her own World Record, as she lifted a weight of 147kg.

In an extraordinary show of strength, Onyinyechi Mark won Gold in the women’s Up to 61kg Para-Powerlifting at Paris 2024.

She also set multiple World Records, beginning with an impressive 140kg lift, which spurred her to an early lead.

Mark then lifted 145kg, breaking the Paralympic Record and solidifying her dominance in the competition. Her third attempt of 147kg secured the Gold and set a new World Record.

Ten minutes later, Mark lifted 150kg, shattering her previous records. She defeated Chinaā€™s Jianjin Cui with 140kg, while Mexicoā€™s Amalia Perez Vazquez earned bronze with 135kg.

Hailing from Umuahia and dominating the world stage, Onyinyechi Mark has cemented her legacy as an African powerhouse. She is now regarded as one of the greatest powerlifters Africa has ever produced.

Astonishingly, Onyinyechi set three consecutive World Records in one year: 146kg, 147kg, and 150kg. Her incredible achievements continue to capture the admiration of fans around the globe.

Her performances are nothing short of extraordinary, breaking two World Records in just 10 minutes. Onyinyechiā€™s strength and determination make her feats truly unbelievable.
