A lot of people upload videos on Youtube to hundreds of subscribers. Women, too, are not left behind. Lately, YouTube has become an important tool in education. Women from northern Nigeria are learning to make an impact online by sharing educational videos.
Now more than ever, these women, are taking back control of the narrative. They have found their voices and are unapologetic about it. Here are 5 Arewa rising voices on YouTube and beyond.
1. Jamila Daura
Jamila Daura is a licensed esthetician and a content creator. Her content revolves around beauty, lifestyle, finance and social commentary. She currently lives in the state of Georgia, USA. Her channels include Jamila Daura and Aado Lifestyle.
2. Dr. Maryam Almustapha
Dr. Almustapha is medical doctor and medical content creator. She uses her channel to create awareness surrounding health problems in Nigeria to inspire a healthier community. Occasionally, she uses her platform to debunk social myths regarding medicine. Her famous slogan is, āI am not a malaria and typhoid doctor.ā She insists there is more to medicine. She is on YouTube as Dr. Maryam Ahmed Alhassan.
3. Dr. Naima Idris
Dr Naima is a Medical doctor and health advocate. She gained popularity on social media when she started raising awareness regarding womenās intimate hygiene. Dr Naima is passionate about touching lives. One of the ways she hopes to do that is by enlightening the population about reproductive and child health. 4. Mary J. Black
Mary J. Black is a beauty YouTube page managed by two Northern Nigerians. They currently have one of the largest following of 627k subscribers. Their content are usually reaction or transformation videos. The duo also does a good job of keeping it real.
