4 benefits of homeschooling your children

Homeschooling is the process through which a child a educated at home usually by their parents, private tutors, or a combination of the two. Homeschooling is gradually being accepted in many homes across the world. During the Covid-19 pandemic, some parents had to take up homeschooling. Letā€™s take a look at four benefits of homeschooling for the parents and child.

1. Safety

In countries like Nigeria plagued by kidnappings, homeschooling seems comforting to parents. Parents will not have to worry whether their kids are waylaid. Or in the US where school shootings are becoming the order of the day.

2. Lower risk of influence

It is in the formative years of a childā€™s life that they are the most prone to influence, usually in the form of peer pressure. Their brains pick up everything their friends do, while trying to imbibe it. Thus, it is a better option for a child to learn from their primary caregiver.

3. Monitor your childā€™s progress

Homeschooling allows a parent monitor their childā€™s progress over time. Every child is born with their unique talents and abilities. As such, a parent will likely pick up what excites a child and build on their strengths.

4. Quality time

Homeschooling is a win-win situation for the two parties involved. The child and parent get to spend more time together that they ordinarily wouldnā€™t. Children learn better in environments they are comfortable in.

Homeschooling is definitely not for every parent. The requirements are just not what most parents have in their repertoire. But if youā€™re open to the idea, it is worth a try.Ā
