Bassirou Diomaye Faye was sworn in as the youngest President of Senegal on Tuesday.
The 44-year-old, who has never held an elected office, took an oath before God and the Senegalese nation to fulfill the duties of the President of the Republic of Senegal.
The inauguration ceremony, held in the new town of Diamniadio near the capital Dakar, was attended by several African leaders.
President Bola Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of States and Government, was among the attendees.

Faye, who succeeded immediate past president Macky Sall, pledged to observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws, defend the integrity of the territory and national independence, and spare no effort to achieve African unity.
Faye was among a group of political opponents released from prison 10 days before the March 24 presidential ballot under an amnesty announced by Sall, who had attempted to delay the vote.
The former tax inspector launched his campaign while still in detention.
