5 Effective Ways to Manage Anger



Managing anger is important to avoid emotional outbursts as we are occasionally faced with situations that take away our calmness. There is virtually no one that can brag about not getting angry at various points in their life which makes anger management vital as we navigate life.

In as much as we try to control our emotions, it has not stopped us from expressing our disgust and anger at one point or the other. It is paramount to note that anger goes beyond the exchange of foul words and throwing fisticuffs. Snubbing your offender is another ways to express your emotions

Regularly, we are faced with situations that take away our calm nature. When these unpleasant moments arise, what do we do? Do we reel out disgusting words till our offender gets a dose of how we feel? Or do we walk away and plan revenge? In this article, I have espoused five effective ways to manage anger.

1. Watch your words

Our words are as powerful as our actions. The first reaction to anger is words often laced with vituperations. It is normal to get angry. Raising your voice when you do not feel too good about being hurt is obviously expected. However, try as much as possible not to let out words you would later regret.

Nevertheless, it does not stop the witnesses of your crass vituperations from holding you responsible if your offender becomes a victim of any negative occurrence.

2. Mind your actions

The reactions to anger cannot be predicted. Anger can stimulate you into using sharp objects on your offender. Likewise, there are many persons who have wowed never to offer help to anyone because their good deeds were repaid with evil. Taking a decision to never be of help to anyone may later come to hurt you in the long run. Hence, you have to put into cognizance the actions you take whenever you are angry.

3. Ease your mind

This is one effective way to manage anger. It is not as easy as it seem. Whenever we are angry, it is easy for people to advise us to stay calm and take our minds away from the hurt. How do you ease your mind is an important question to note here.

Taking a walk can help you to ease your stress. Walk to somewhere serene, away from the crowd. Take your mind away from the feeling of anger as much as possible. Also, listening to music can help to ease your mind. Listening to songs with ”calm” lyrics can help to douse the tension in your heart. Taking a walk and listening to music would help to manage the anger you feel.

4. Talk to a friend

Talk to a friend when you are angry. Your friend does not necessarily have to be around you. Let out your anger and pour out your emotions to that person. By doing so, you will be left with nothing to carry on your chest.

Learn to be open about your feelings without harboring any form of hate. If you bottle up your anger, you would be hurting yourself even more. Expressing how you feel to a friend will help to manage your anger.

5. Open up to your offender

Many persons do not feel comfortable with opening up to those who offend them. They bottle it up or ā€˜leave it for Godā€™. It is even more difficult when the person is quite older. When someone offends you, open up to him or her in a calm tone. Do not resort to aggressive words.

Explain how you feel and express your displeasure appropriately. If your offender chooses to remain adamant, allow him be. However, do not harbor any form of revenge or anger in your heart. Holding grudges against people will only hurt you the more.

It is not always easy to stay cool when you were caused to feel rage. That notwithstanding, if you know how to effectively manage your anger, you will not regret your actions afterward.
