5 Nigerian men tell us how to stop being a simp

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

A simp, over the years, has been used to mean a man who is desperate for the attention and affection of a girl.

According to CNN Health, it is the new slang teens use to insult boys who are ‘too nice’ to girls.

Nonetheless, this approach tends to be one-sided, with their crush not reciprocating the same feelings.

When a guy is “simping” for a girl, he might generously offer compliments, give unexpected presents, send affectionate messages, cover her expenses, go to great lengths to impress her, or make himself overly accessible to her.

In a way, every man has the potential to be a simp or may start simping for a girl without even knowing. However, it is important to note that treating women with basic respect and dignity is not simping.

5 Nigerian men tell us how to stop being a simp

In this interview with NRTC, 5 Nigerian men tell us how to stop being a simp and the dangers of being a simp.

Theodore

Well, the thing about being a simp is that it’s kind of subjective. What one considers simping, another might see as cute. But if we are talking about the extreme ends of actions considered as simping, then these are my takes:

  1. Have discussions about life and relationships with older, or more experienced people in that aspect. It doesn’t mean one must take everything they say to heart, but their experience can give insight;
  2. Read more about acts of service;
  3. Sometimes, for no reason, especially when no one’s life is at stake, be selfish for no reason.

Akinola

First, to stop being a simp, one must first realize he’s one. Understand his self worth. And then realize there is always someone better who would accept you for what you are and still have a better characteristics than the current so-called crush. Channel all the energy used to get attention from someone who obviously doesn’t give a damm to something worthwhile.

And the irony if thing is that, the guy can stop all those care and affection and the lady will begin to miss it, thereby start giving him attention. I mean with the number of pretty ladies out there, why will somebody’s son be wasting his time? Statistically, ladies are supposed to be chasing guys by now because they’re way too many everywhere. So the simp or whatever should come back to their senses.

Ernest

To stop being a simp, you have to define the goals from the very beginning. Like be on the same page. Be smart enough to know that you’re turning to a simp and call it a stop.

One of the dangers is that sapa will kill you. We invest to make profit but your investment as the simp you are, na loss you collect, and besides it’s psychologically draining.

Tosin

At some point in our lives, everyone would have been a simp in one way of the other. But the best way to stop being a simp is to work on our self-image. The way we perceive ourselves matter. And if we don’t place any value on who we are, we’ll always place it on someone else.

The danger of being a simp is that the person could end up being treated as as a low quality man. Nobody will have regard for such person because simps don’t even have regard for themselves.

Adekunle

I believe the best way to stop being a simp is to stop being closer to the person you are simping over. Just like addiction, to stop it requires to stop doing act. The danger behind this is that it makes one less of a being, because one will always seek validation of people.
