Whenever the discussion about cheating is rebooted, men are always at the epicentre of it. Most people who believe that men will always cheat are those who believe that African men are ‘naturally’ polygamous. Most arguments that support this claim are reduced to religion and culture as if those men in Western countries who adopted monogamy are not men.

Or those who believe that polygamy is sort of helping more women to get into relationships because there are more women than men, which is false. Statistically, there are more men on earth than women.

In this interview, NRTC spoke to five Nigerian women who shared their opinions on how to deal with a cheating partner.

Favour

The best thing is to leave the relationship. It’s emotionally and mentally draining. The first time is always the hardest. If you can cheat once ( either by mistake or with intentions). It’s not going to be hard for you to do it again. The commitment in the relationship is already under attack, except you both agreed to make it an open relationship. But the best way is to use the door because it will repeat itself in marriage. It’s already a red flag.

Dealing with a cheating partner can be an incredibly challenging and sincerely an emotional experience. Discovering that a partner has cheated can evoke a range of intense emotions. It’s just Important to acknowledge and validate these feelings. Personally, I will confront the partner ‘cos I just feel it’s good to have open and honest communication.

I will also take a step back and evaluate the relationship as a whole. Reflect on whether I believe the relationship is worth salvaging and if both parties are willing to put in the necessary effort to rebuild trust.

Majorly, I will focus on self-care and engage in activities that bring me joy and help my emotional state.

Jumoke

Well, he might be cheating and I donā€™t know. But I havenā€™t caught one cheating before. If you cheat and I caught you, then we are done.

Chisom

Confront the partner that is cheating, ask for reasons why they are cheating and why you ain’t enough for them. If there is something the other partner need to work on or if the reasons are just stupid just walk away. Coz we all deserve genuine love, you know. I can’t be loving you genuinely and then you are cheating on me coz of something stupid and unreasonable.

Shuqroh

Well, the reason for mine was because I wanted to celibate till wedding and they couldn’t control themselves. A huge red flag.
