In recent times, self care has become synonymous with rest. We all know that rest is essential. We also need to care for ourselves first, then others. It is not possible to give what one does not have. Human beings, like plants need to be watered. Think of self-care as watering yourself. Here are five self care tips that will help you give and redirect your energy to yourself.
1. Nurture your interests
A good place to start can be by nurturing your interests. Whether this is writing, music, painting, etc, it can go a long way in helping you. This may sound like work, but trust me, it isnāt. You are directly investing in your rest and growth. As such, it is self care.
2. Try therapy
Therapy is frowned upon, in this part of the world. Mental illnesses are either ignored or misdiagnosed. A licensed therapist that help you work out some of the grievances you may have. Committing to seeing one and working out your issues will result in you feeling better about yourself.
3. Acknowledge your feelings
It is normal to feel sadder. We were created to have emotions and to feel them. Sit with feelings of sadness or anger when they come. Donāt ignore them. It is only by acknowledging them that we start to feel positively about ourselves.

4. Invest in your wellness
Eating healthy meals, exercising and drinking enough water are proven ways to self-care. Journaling and meditation also help with mental clarity. This will in turn improve your relationship with yourself. Your relationship with others will benefit as well.
5. Feed your curiosity
Google is an effective way to do this. Ever wondered how a dishwasher worked? You can Google it! Reading also helps. Curiosity forces you to ask questions. Questions in turn open up your mind to multiple possibilities.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.
