5 Ways to cope with heartbreak

Heartbreak

Having setbacks in relationships can lead to heartbreak. This can be devastating and dampen the emotions of the affected people for a while. For some people, they fall into depression and it may take them a longer time to become better, compared to others.

Regardless of the pain one feels from heartbreak, one should seek suitable ways to cope during this period. Some of the ways are explained below.

Take care of yourself

Do not beat yourself too much for the emotional pain you are feeling. The pain may be as a result of the loss of a loved one, or the end of a relationship/friendship. However, try to take care of yourself. Do not seclude yourself from other people. Also, try to do the regular things you are always involved in so that the pain does not take a greater part of you.

Embrace new hobbies

Asides doing your regular activities, embrace new hobbies. Engage in activities that will lighten your spirit. American business executive, Marissa Mayer said, ā€œYou canā€™t have everything you want, but you can have the things that matter to you.ā€

Inasmuch as you want to be happy as a person, you must make the sacrifices to guarantee your happiness. You canā€™t be dwelling on hurtful thoughts and think that you would overcome the pain of heartbreak. Regardless of the hurt you feel, embracing new hobbies will help to ameliorate the situation.

Change your environment

If it is possible, leave your present environment. It will help you to refresh your memory and have new thoughts. Socialise more and make new friends. Have conversations not related to your present condition. Although your thoughts may revolve around your hurt, endeavour to switch to more healthy thoughts. Also, hold enlightening conversations.

Join social groups

You can join groups that will enable you to talk about how you feel. There is nothing wrong with expressing your emotions. If you feel like crying, it is also fine. However, do not spend a great number of time crying. The earlier you embrace your reality, the quicker you would overcome your frustration.

Stay positive

If your heart was broken by your partner, do not see it as a reason to give up on love. Take the lessons you learnt from the relationship and move on. Do not see everyone that comes your way as the same with your previous partner. It is not only a hasty generalisation, it can also mar your relationship with other people. Forgive everyone that hurts you but be careful not to repeat whatever mistake you made in a previous relationship.
