Often, we are told of the benefits of hard work. It is not a punishment. Instead, it gives us an edge over others. More so, there is always a reward for hard work, consistency, perseverance, and faith. Previously, it was cool for men to work hard as sole providers of the family.
Meanwhile, women were seen as home managers and caretakers of the family. Times have changed. Presently, women are working as hard as the male folks. In NRTCs previous editions of 7 Notable Female Role Models, we travelled to Delta and Edo States. Hence, we shall be looking at 7 Notable Female Role Models from Lagos State.

Lagos State, a Land for Greener Pastures
Lagos State is the commercial centre of Nigeria. It is a densely populated region. More so, its people are known as regular hustlers and early risers. Its people love to bubble and catch fun at weekends. Same way, they love to hustle during the weekdays.
The people of Lagos go through regular stress and traffic on the roads. Nevertheless, it has not stopped them from dreaming big. Consequently, they hope that their dreams shall become a reality one day. However, that is if they keep up the hard work, resilience, faith, tenacity, and hope.
The 7 Notable Female Role Models from Lagos State are;
1. Dayo Amusa
Amusa is an actress, singer and proprietress known for her acting in Yoruba and English movies. Also, she is the Proprietress of PayDab Schools in Ibadan and Lagos. She is the recipient of Best Actress Indigenous Nollywood Movies Awards 2014.
In addition, she is a recipient of Outstanding Achievers Awards 2011, and Diamond Special Recognition Awards 2014. Her songs include Aye Mii, Ayemi Remix ft Oritsefemi, Blow My Mind, among others.

2. Taiwo Ajai-Lycett
Ajai-Lycett is a journalist, actress, and theatre enthusiast. At the Royal Court Theatre in London, her acting career started when she performed in Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and the Jewel in 1966. Furthermore, she has featured in several notable Nigerian films, including Oloibiri and Tinsel.
She is the pioneer editor of Africa Woman magazine, a women’s magazine for Africans in the Diaspora. She was a participant at the United Nations International Women’s Year, as an editor.
President Olusegun Obasanjo, October 1, 2006 decorated her with a national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger. In addition, she is a Fellow of the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA).

3. Omowunmi Akinifesi
Akinifesi is a former beauty queen and business woman. In 2005, she was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. In 2012, Akinifesi obtained a master’s degree in Environmental Monitoring, Modeling, and Management from King’s College London. She is the boss of Elle Poise, a public relations and usher-hiring business.
However, she has been recognized as a style icon in recent years. In 2011, Allure Style Awards honoured her. Akinnifesi launched her clothing line labeled, “Omowunmi” in 2016.

4. Abike Dabiri-Erewa
Dabiri-Erewa is a famous Nigerian politician and currently the CEO/Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission. She was also the former Chair of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, 2003, 2007 and 2011. More so, she was Board Member, Lagos State Broadcasting Corporation Vision 2010.
For fifteen years, Dabiri-Erewa worked for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). She anchored the weekly NTA Newsline programme, with interest in social justice issues.
However, she retired from her position at Nigerian Television Authority to stand for election in the House of Representatives. She won with a substantial majority. Furthermore, she stood against the third term bid of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
In 2015, she was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari. This position was in relation to Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.
5. Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele
Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele (born 30 April 1939) is a Nigerian politician. Also, she is a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
She was the 11th Deputy Governor to Governor Bola Tinubu between May 1999 and November 2003. She got a diploma in Journalism in 1962. More so, she worked as a freelance journalist for BBC and VON Magazine.

6. Adebisi Sarah Sosan
Sosan was born in Lagos on 11 February 1956. She is a former teacher and deputy governor of Lagos State. In 2006, she was the Head of the Department of Communication and Information Technology, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board.
She was given the duty of ensuring that computer education was given the needed attention in Lagos State Public Primary Schools. Consequently, Babatunde Fashola appointed her as Deputy Governor in 2007.
7. Azizat Oshoala
Oshoala is a Nigerian footballer born on October 9, 1994 in Ikorodu area of Lagos State. Currently, she plays for Barcelona FC. She was named best player at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Likewise, she is the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2015.
In September 2014, former president Goodluck Jonathan made her a Member of the Order of the Niger. Also, Oshoala was a part the Super Falcons team that won the African Women’s Championship in 2014, 2016 and 2018. In addition, she is Africa’s Women Footballer of the Year for four times. 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
