It has been two years since the 2023 elections, and one thing Nigerians won’t forget anytime soon is the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu talks.
From campaign stages to serious government speeches, he has dropped some quotes that people are still trying to understand.
Let’s look at seven times Tinubu said something “powerful” that left Nigerians either laughing, confused, or both.
- “Just take it, if you want an omelette, you got to break the egg.”
This was meant to talk about making sacrifices. But instead of making things clear, it sounded more like kitchen advice than leadership. People were left asking, Who asked for eggs?
- “No matter how short you are, you get out, you will see the sky.”
This one felt like a joke at first. Maybe it was supposed to motivate people, but it ended up sounding like something from a children’s cartoon. Nigerians just smiled and moved on.
- “You don’t commit abortion, after the baby is born — that’s murder.”
This line was meant to be serious, but it only brought confusion. Everyone knows a baby born is not up for abortion — that’s not how anything works. People didn’t know whether to correct him or just ignore it.
- “A common screwdriver can create a path to fortune.”
This could have been inspiring, but instead, it made people wonder: What’s he really saying? Use a screwdriver to do what exactly? Fix the country or open a shop?
- “If you want to go fast, you go alone; if you want to go far, you go together.”
This is an old proverb, not a Tinubu original. But when he said it, people just nodded in relief — finally, something we have heard before that actually makes sense.
- “A dead fish cannot be sweet in any soup, they are dead.”
Nigerians are still laughing at this one. He tried to make a point, but all people could think about was, Which soup? Which fish? The quote ended up sounding like a cooking warning, not a presidential message.
- “A creative mind is a fertile land for growth.”
This one was not too bad. But coming after all the other confusing quotes, it still did not land the way he probably hoped. People weren’t sure if he was talking about farming or thinking.
Tinubu’s quotes may not always make sense, but they never go unnoticed.
Whether they make you laugh, shake your head, or pause in shock — one thing’s sure: they’re unforgettable.
