Mozilla has announced it will discontinue its read-it-later app, Pocket, on July 8, 2025, marking the end of the service.
After this date, users will no longer be able to save new content, but can export existing data until October 8, 2025.
Mozilla cites shifting user habits as the reason for the shutdown, aiming to reallocate resources to projects better aligned with current needs.
Pocket, originally launched as Read It Later in 2007, was acquired by Mozilla in 2017 and integrated into Firefox.
The app allowed users to save articles, videos, and webpages for later viewing across devices, gaining popularity among readers.

As of May 22, 2025, the Pocket app and browser extensions have been removed from app stores, though existing users can reinstall them until October 8.
Subscriptions will be automatically canceled on July 8, with prorated refunds issued to annual plan subscribers.
Despite the app’s closure, Pocket’s email newsletter, Pocket Hits, will continue under the new name “Ten Tabs,” albeit without a weekend edition.
Mozilla is also discontinuing Fakespot, its AI-based fake review detection tool, with the Firefox-integrated Review Checker ending on June 10, 2025.
These changes reflect Mozilla’s strategic shift towards enhancing its browser with AI-powered features and personalized user experiences.
