Fayemi hails Oyebanji as ‘greatest achievement,’ commissions new road

Immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has lauded the current governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for his transformative leadership and commitment to continuity in governance, describing the incumbent as his greatest achievement.

Fayemi made the commendation on Saturday at Ijelu-Ekiti during the commissioning of the newly constructed Itapa-Ijelu-Omu road, an event marking the third anniversary of the Oyebanji administration.

Speaking to journalists, the former governor asserted that Oyebanji is “absolutely” his greatest achievement because he has managed to “either correct or reduce” his own imperfections.

Fayemi praised the governor for his singular focus on the “transformation agenda for the people of Ekiti” and avoiding “unnecessary politicking” at the expense of development.

He further stated that Oyebanji’s successful three-year tenure is a validation of his belief in purposeful leadership and justifies the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Ekiti populace’s decision to present him as the consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election.

Riding into the venue with Oyebanji, Fayemi commended the governor for prioritising infrastructure, particularly road construction and rehabilitation, which he noted has enhanced connectivity, boosted commerce, and eased transportation across the state.

He described the new roads as strategic to Ekiti’s economic growth, linking key agricultural, business, and tourism corridors to major urban centres.

“I want to thank our governor for not disappointing us and for holding firm to his God and the truth in delivering the task of governing Ekiti and leaving it better than the way we left it,” Fayemi said.

He highlighted several road projects started during his tenure that have now been completed by the current administration, including the Itapa-Ijelu-Omu road.

In his remarks, Oyebanji expressed profound appreciation to his predecessor for laying a solid foundation, attributing his administration’s achievements to the collective efforts and common vision shared by successive governments.

He described the event as a testament to the benefits of continuity in government, stressing that development accelerates when leaders build upon their predecessors’ work instead of abandoning it.

Oyebanji specifically thanked Fayemi for “breaking the jinx of continuity” in Ekiti State, confirming that nearly all uncompleted road projects initiated by the previous administration have now been successfully finished by his government.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Sola Adebayo, commended Oyebanji’s visionary leadership and commitment to the welfare of Ekiti, noting that the road project reflects the government’s determination to ensure evenly spread development in line with its shared prosperity mantra.

The Owajumu of Omu Kingdom, Oba Adeoye Joseph, Retired Anglican Bishop Rev’d Michael Ipinmoye, and NURTW Chairman Chief Falope Joseph, also delivered goodwill messages.

They thanked the governor for the administration’s commitment to rural and infrastructure development and affirming that the new road will boost local commerce, enhance access to essential services, and foster stronger socio-economic ties in the region.
