The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s higher education sector with the unveiling of five major infrastructure projects valued at over N1.06bn at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu.

The developments were executed through TETFund’s special intervention initiative aimed at modernising public tertiary institutions throughout Nigeria.

The infrastructure projects were commissioned on Friday during a ceremony attended by government representatives, academic community delegates, and stakeholders from Nigeria’s Southeast region.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, created by the Nigerian government, channels resources toward infrastructure upgrades and capacity enhancement in public tertiary institutions nationwide.

Mrs Esther Onyinyechukwu Ukachukwu, representing the TETFund Board of Trustees, commended IMT’s leadership for demonstrating resilience and fiscal responsibility in completing the projects despite prevailing economic difficulties.

She characterised the accomplishment as evidence of what transparent governance and commitment can deliver in Nigerian public higher education institutions.

“Out of N7.24bn designated to IMT for infrastructure advancement over time, the institution has effectively utilised N6.22bn and implemented critical projects transforming its educational facilities,” Ukachukwu declared.

She praised the Enugu State Government, located in southeastern Nigeria, for its ongoing backing of IMT and pledged that TETFund would continue supporting programmes advancing innovation, especially in digital education and artificial intelligence technologies.

TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc Sonny S.T. Echono, applauded IMT’s administration for fiscal discipline and effective project implementation amid Nigeria’s challenging economic climate.

He observed that institutions such as IMT have proven that through honest governance and competent administration, public resources can fulfil their designated objectives.

“Even with volatile economic circumstances, they have stayed committed and produced outcomes,” Echono remarked.

He disclosed to participants that the TETFund Board had authorised supplementary funding to support institutions with incomplete or troubled projects, indicating that such assistance was already generating observable progress across the nation.

Echono stressed the critical need for maintenance practices, encouraging IMT to safeguard the newly inaugurated facilities to guarantee sustained utility.

His comments highlighted a persistent difficulty in Nigerian public establishments where physical infrastructure frequently decays from insufficient upkeep.

IMT Rector, Professor Gozie Ogbodo, confirmed that the institution remains dedicated to preserving all TETFund-backed infrastructure.

He emphasised that the institution prioritises maintenance, observing that each inaugurated project had undergone fresh painting and renovation.

“Our objective is to establish a contemporary and operational educational setting that motivates students and personnel equally,” Ogbodo declared.

The Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, ranks among Nigeria’s leading polytechnics, delivering diploma and higher national diploma courses across multiple disciplines.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund functions as an intervention organisation under Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education, collecting and administering education tax proceeds for intervention initiatives in public tertiary establishments throughout Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
