Adefarasin Urges Nigerians To Have a Plan-B

Adefarasin

On Sunday, May 9, the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, advised his church members to have a plan B in case the situation in the country goes out of hand.

This statement from the renowned cleric has attracted varying opinions. The preacher also stated that his wife, Ifeanyi, is out of the country to prepare his family’s Plan B.

In his words,

”I bring you greetings from Pastor Ifeanyi who is busy taking care of the frontier of our world and preparing our escape route. If you don’t have a plan B, I know you have faith. But I have faith too but I have a plan B.

With technology I can speak to you from anywhere in the world. Get yourself a plan B. Whether that’s an Okada to Cameroon or flying boat or speed boat as we call them to Seme Border or a hole in the ground, get your plan B because these people are crazy. The whole bunch of them. And watch the signs because it can happen like this. God forbid!”

The reason behind Adefarasin’s statement is not unconnected with the many challenges Nigeria is facing. Consequently, he said that if an end is not in sight, some persons would have to run for their dear lives. He also called on the leaders not to be partisan at this time.

”No country in the world history has survived two civil wars. You could be in fright and running for your dear life any day from now if this thing does not come to an end. My personal encouragement to leaders and government on all sides is that it is not time to be partisan; blend the aisles. It is time to sit down and dialogue,” he said.

Pros and cons of Adefarasin’s statement

The words of Adefarasin did not go down well in some quarters. Some questioned the faith of the preacher whom many see as a role model. That if a man of faith can utter such, what hope is there for the man with little faith? Besides, it was assumed that the narrative of a positive change for the country is being compromised.

Some argued that whilst Pastor Paul may have the means to relocate, not everyone does. Hence, he should not discourage those people without a choice.

To further buttress the point, it was said that Nigeria is not just the land. Nigeria is the people, and only the people can help the nation restore its lost glory.

However, some praised Adefarasin’s honesty for addressing his church members with the truth. In recent times, the country has been faced with recurrent stories of insecurity and banditry attacks. Kidnapping has become the order of the day. Sadly, it seems like the country’s security operatives are helpless.

In addition, the cost of living is skyrocketing and poverty is at an unprecedented level. What then, do the people stand to benefit from a nation whose leaders show little or no concern for their plight?

As such, those in support of the controversial comments have opined that Adefarasin’s advice is for the benefit of all; friendly, timely and wise.

Nevertheless, it is pertinent to note that for a nation to grow and overcome its challenges, there must be a willingness to effect change by those in power. This is the only sure route to gain the trust of the citizens. However, if there is no confidence in the government, the people have no other option but to choose a path that guarantees their overall well-being.
