AFCON 2022: Nigeria maintain 100 percent record

The Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained hundred percent record in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2022) in Cameroon.

Nigeria made it three from three games with a 2-0 win over Equatorial-Guinea.

The three-time African champions scored the first goal of the encounter through Sadiq Umar. The Almeria striker converted from the flick of Kelechi Iheanacho.

William Troost-Ekong benefitted from Simon Moses’ shot that hit the bar to his direction to make it two. The Watford defender was eventually handed the man of the match award.

There was a long VAR delay that overturned the initial decision of office. This made the skipper express delight at scoring his third goal in 63 appearances for the 2013 champions.

In the group’s other game, seven times champions, Egypt recorded a single goal victory over Sudan to finish second behind Nigeria.

As it stands, the group won’t produce one of the best losers as both Sudan and Guinea-Bissau finished with a point each.

Nigeria also became the first country in the tournament to win all their first three games.
