Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s Ondo governorship election, has been declared the winner.

The Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, announced the results on Sunday.

With this victory, Aiyedatiwa is set to extend his tenure at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.

He secured 366,781 votes, decisively defeating his closest opponent, former deputy governor Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes—less than one-third of the APC candidate’s total.

“Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the Returning Officer proclaimed at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Akure.

The announcement followed hours of vote collation, which began early Sunday morning. Despite intermittent breaks, the APC maintained a commanding lead throughout, finishing over 200,000 votes ahead of the PDP.

The final results revealed a landslide victory for the APC, as the party won in all 18 local government areas of the state.
