Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Friday commissioned the newly reconstructed Gbangbalogun Axis Road in Akure, marking a major milestone in his first 100 days in office and underscoring his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal.
Speaking at the event held opposite Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, the governor described the road as a key component of his “OUR EASE” policy agenda, which focuses on infrastructure development, social advancement, and economic growth.
The 7km road links Irowo Road to the busy Arakale–Oke-Aro–Idanre corridor and had long suffered severe degradation, including pavement failures, deep cracks and widespread potholes.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said its rehabilitation was a strategic move to improve traffic flow, stimulate local commerce, and enhance residents’ quality of life.
“This project is a visible testament to our administration’s resolve to deliver impactful governance. The Gbangbalogun axis is a vital urban route, and this intervention supports easier movement, economic vibrancy, and reduced vehicle maintenance for our people,” he stated.
He added that the road upgrade complements ongoing work on the larger Oke-Aro–Idanre Road, noting that completing the Gbangbalogun link ahead of the main artery was a deliberate effort to prevent traffic congestion and support smoother mobility in the area.
Special Adviser to the governor on Infrastructure, Olawoye Abiola, revealed that the newly commissioned road spans a total of seven kilometres.
He noted that similar projects are underway across the state and would be completed in phases, aligning with the administration’s broader development plan.
