Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has given his approval for the payment of a monthly wage award of N35,000 to workers in state-owned tertiary institutions.

According to his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, this wage award, expected to last six months, will commence this month.

The governor’s decision follows a meeting he held last week in Akure with the heads and representatives of the tertiary institutions’ workforce.

The workers recently protested their exclusion from the N35,000 monthly wage award granted to civil servants in the State over the past six months, from November 2023 to April 2024.

Initially, the state government planned to fund the wage award for the school workers from the increased subvention allocated to tertiary institutions in recent months. However, their inability to cover these expenses necessitated the governor’s intervention.

To ensure adequate funding for the wage award to tertiary institution workers, the government reduced the wage award for civil servants from N35,000 to N15,000.

Additionally, pensioners in the state are also receiving a monthly wage award of N10,000.
