Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has announced his administration’s ambitious plan to develop Akure into a modern state capital comparable to any in Nigeria.
He stated this commitment during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new residential housing project for members of the State Executive Council.
Aiyedatiwa said the ongoing urban renewal efforts in the Alagbaka area are just the beginning of a broader transformation agenda for the city.
He assured residents that work would be expedited on major road projects, specifically mentioning the Ijoka Road and the Irese flyover, with other road construction plans also in the pipeline.

The governor’s vision, encapsulated in his administration’s “OUR EASE” developmental agenda, aims to address infrastructure deficits and improve the living standards of residents.
Aiyedatiwa also reiterated plans to launch an affordable housing scheme for civil servants across the state, promising that similar projects would be extended to the legislative and judicial arms of government.
On Thursday, Aiyedatiwa launched the construction of 32 units of four-bedroom terraced residential buildings at the Government House Grounds in Alagbaka.
The project is designed to provide secure and comfortable housing for cabinet members, a long-standing need as very few top officials previously had access to government-provided accommodation.
The new estate will consist of 28 terraced houses and four stand-alone homes, along with a gatehouse and a maintenance block.
The governor described the project as a significant step towards ensuring the welfare of those who drive government business.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, called the housing project a clear sign of the governor’s dedication to reducing the state’s infrastructure gap.
The Chief Technical Officer of the contractor, Cosgrove Investment Ltd., Engr. Baba Kalli, pledged to complete the project to the highest standards.
The event drew praise from key figures, including Hon. Biola Oladapo, Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing, who lauded the initiative as a “legacy project.”
