Ajibade slams NFF over poor Falcons’ WAFCON preparations

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has criticised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for poor preparations ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

‎Ajibade voiced her frustration in a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday, saying players were left in the dark about camp arrangements and friendly matches for the April FIFA window.

She revealed that she only learned informally from an NFF official that camp would open on April 11, describing the situation as unprofessional.

She stressed the importance of serious preparation, warning that Nigeria’s performance at WAFCON will determine World Cup qualification. “We are not just preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations; we are also fighting for World Cup qualification. Why are we not preparing with the seriousness this demands?” she wrote.

Ajibade’s criticism comes as the Falcons are expected to feature in the rescheduled WAFCON, set for July 26 to August 16 in Morocco.

Her comments also drew attention to the NFF’s announcement of the Super Eagles’ participation in the Unity Cup, a four‑nation tournament involving Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and India, scheduled for May 26 to 30 in London.

Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie reacted to the development by posting a photo of the Eagles with the caption: “So Eagles get another AFCON for July?”

Ajibade’s remarks have reignited debate over the NFF’s handling of women’s football, with players demanding better planning and communication as Nigeria prepares for continental and global competitions.
