Carlos Alcaraz continued his push toward history with a commanding win in Melbourne after powering past Alex de Minaur to reach his first Australian Open semi-final.
On Rod Laver Arena, the 22-year-old hushed a partisan crowd with ruthless efficiency. He won 7-5 6-2 6-1, ending Australia’s hopes of a home singles champion.
Alcaraz owns six Grand Slam titles from Paris, London, and New York. However, this is his first appearance in the last four at the Australian Open.
Yet to drop a set at this year’s tournament, his form has sharpened steadily. In truth, confidence and patience have defined his Melbourne run.
“I’m happy with the way I am playing here,” Alcaraz said afterward. “From the first round to now, I am increasing my level every match.”
“Today I felt really comfortable, playing great tennis which I am proud about. I am really happy to get into the semi-final.”
Next, he faces German third seed Alexander Zverev for a place in the final. The prize edges him closer to completing the career Grand Slam.
De Minaur arrived chasing a first major semi-final at the seventh attempt. However, the Australian had never beaten Alcaraz in five previous meetings.

Crowd energy fades as Alcaraz takes control
The opening set briefly lifted local belief. De Minaur struck aggressively and matched the world number one’s speed. He recovered twice from a break down to reignite the contest.The atmosphere surged as the set tightened.
However, at 6-5, Alcaraz delivered the decisive blow. The opening set lasted nearly an hour and shifted momentum firmly.
From there, control belonged entirely to the Spaniard. His weight of shot and movement overwhelmed De Minaur.
The second and third sets slipped away quickly, with precision replacing resistance as Alcaraz closed with authority.
