Algerian Customs pledges deeper partnership with Nigeria on training, modernisation

The Director-General of Algerian Customs, Major General Abdulhafid Bakhouche, has committed to deepening cooperation with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the areas of training, customs modernisation, and trade facilitation.

Bakhouche made the commitment yesterday at the Algerian Customs Service Headquarters in Algiers, where he received a delegation of students from Senior Course 13 of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, at the start of their four-day study tour.

“We are fully prepared to work closely with the Nigeria Customs Service in strengthening training, enhancing modernisation and improving the facilitation of customs procedures,” Bakhouche said.

He also assured the delegation that his officers were ready to guide them to ensure the tour’s purpose was achieved.

The Nigerian delegation was led by the Commandant of the College, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Oluyomi Adebanki, who delivered a message from the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.

Deputy Comptroller-General Adebanki underscored the importance of strengthening continental cooperation, stating: “African customs administrations must work together, especially in training, building trade bridges and promoting modernisation that supports seamless trade across our continent.

“We must continue to see ourselves as brothers and partners, irrespective of differences in culture or background.”

The theme of this year’s study tour was “Customs Delivering on Commitment to Efficiency in Securing Oil Exports in Africa.”

The students are expected to gain a deeper understanding of oil export procedures within Algerian Customs and draw lessons to enhance operations within the NCS.
