Anambra Police arrests suspected child trafficking kingpin

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected kingpin of an interstate child trafficking syndicate in a decisive effort to investigate a series of mysterious child disappearances.

On August 11, 2025, police operatives from the Oba Division, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Ngozi Muotuanya, a 63-year-old woman from Awkuzu-Oba.

Preliminary investigations revealed that in 2024, the suspect allegedly stole a one-year-old male child in Minna, Niger State, and sold him to a person in Anambra.

The child was then reportedly resold to another individual. However, on August 4, 2025, the second buyer discovered the child had been stolen and returned him to Muotuanya.

The suspect is then said to have abandoned the child at an unspecified church in Minna, where he was rescued by the leader of the Igbo community.

The police has since contacted the Niger State Police Command and provided information on the child’s whereabouts for his recovery and reunification with his parents.

The suspect, Ngozi Muotuanya, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.
