Anambra Police assures action following protest against security operatives

The Anambra State Police Command has acknowledged receiving reports of a protest by members of the public against security operatives in the state.

The command, through its Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel, has assured the public that the matter is being given the necessary attention.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, quoted DCP Ezekiel as saying that the command will engage with “relevant State security stakeholders and partners to ensure that appropriate actions are taken to address the concerns raised.

“The statement highlighted that security outfits operating within Anambra were established with the “collective will and consensus of Ndi Anambra” to strengthen community safety and security.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, promoting lawful engagement, and collaborating with all stakeholders to maintain peace and security in the state.

The protest comes amid recent public outrage and condemnation of a viral video showing operatives of a state security outfit assaulting a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

In response to that incident, the state government had previously dismissed and ordered the prosecution of the implicated operatives.
