Anyone who wishes me dead will die in my place – Saheed Osupa reacts to death prophecy by Islamic cleric

Veteran Fuji singer Saheed Osupa has reacted to a prophecy by a Nigerian Islamic cleric who said the musician would die on January 10, 2026.

The cleric, known as Alpha Olopa Meta, had made the statement earlier and said he prayed to God on Osupa’s behalf.

He also advised the singer to buy a large ram for prayers.

Osupa addressed the issue during a live stage performance on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

While performing, the Fuji star dismissed the prophecy and described the cleric as fake.

He warned those wishing him harm to stop, saying such wishes would return to the people making them.

The singer added that anyone hoping for his death, whether close associates, hidden rivals, career enemies, or people around him, should abandon such thoughts.

According to him, those who continue to wish him dead would face death before him.

He said: “Fake Alpha and prophet please don’t wish me dead. Everyone who wishes me dead will die in my place.

“Close enemies, unknown enemies, enemies of my career and the ones in my neighborhood, better don’t wish me dead, or you would die before me.”

Saheed Osupa, whose real name is Akorede Babatunde Okunola, is one of the most respected figures in Fuji music.

He was born on August 7, 1969, in Ibadan, Oyo State. Osupa developed interest in music at a young age and rose to fame in the 1990s through consistency, lyrical depth, and strong stage performances.

Over the years, he has released several successful albums and earned the title King of Fuji from fans and followers of the genre.

Osupa is known for blending traditional Yoruba poetry with modern Fuji sounds, which has helped him remain relevant for decades.

He has also mentored younger Fuji artistes and continues to perform at major events across Nigeria and beyond.
