The Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CENCPC) chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni, and the Senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa, have been engaging in a war of words following a crisis in the Zamfara State chapter of the party.
Marafa, who addressed journalists in Gusau on Sunday, described the APC congress as an exercise in futility, adding that he was prepared to challenge the legality of all actions taken by the Buni-led caretaker committee since inception.
āI have the responsibility to be a good son which I have been in the APC but when the father or the mother wants to sniff life out of me I have a right to defend myself.
āIf there is going to be an implosion that will tear APC apartā¦ they have already torn us apart so good luck it is their cup of tea,ā Marafa said.
He also claimed that the party leadership failed to give the requisite notice on the congress to all parties involved in the state.
āThis confirms to us that the Mai Mala-led APC, as it is today, is on a mission to destroy APC.

āBut we donāt care; they have a right to destroy APC. But in Zamfara, we have interested parties and it is our state and we are not ready to destroy our own house and anybody desirous of doing so we have a right to say no.
āNow, notice is very key. Section 85 of the electoral act made it mandatory. It says āINEC must be given a notice of 21 days.ā
āI donāt know where Mai Mala got this thing. But Iām not surprised because he didnāt go to school. I goggled everywhere and I didnāt see the primary or secondary school he attended.
āThey are operating the party as if they are operating an āAmalankeā (local toy truck). What they are doing is wasting the partyās resources and the peoplesā time.
āThis cannot hold anywhere in the world but we only join them to show them that look, āyou donāt have the monopoly of madness.ā This 24 hoursā notice cannot stand in any court of law. We participated just to tell everyone that madness is not an exclusive preserve of some people.ā
However, in a statement issued by Director-General of Media and Public Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the Yobe governor said Marafa was embarking on a political suicide mission.
He said: āMarafaās vituperations are nothing but an empty ranting of an ant.ā
