APC says Atiku, Obi, united by mutual desperation

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) stated that Peter Obi’s recent visit to Atiku Abubakar has sparked speculations of a possible alliance between the two men or a merger of their political parties leading up to the 2027 elections.

Mr Obi was the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, while Mr. Atiku was the candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC noted that the purpose of the visit was unclear.

Atiku and Obi

Morka speculated whether Obi might return to Atikuā€™s PDP, if Atiku would leave the PDP to join Obiā€™s Labour Party, or if both men might abandon their respective parties altogether to join Professor Pat Utomiā€™s proposed mega party.

Morka said that news of Obiā€™s return to the PDP would not be surprising, given his reputation as a political wayfarer, which is only surpassed by Atikuā€™s track record as a seasoned political wanderer.

He added that news of Atiku joining the Labour Party would also shock no one, as it would be in line with his well-established reputation as the countryā€™s most itinerant politician.

ā€œFor now, Utomiā€™s mega party remains a figment with no offering of tangible accommodation for both men. Atiku and Obi are united by their mutual desperation to be President of Nigeria and ignoble disdain for President Bola Tinubuā€™s focused and extraordinary commitment to the transformation of our nation.Ā Ā

ā€œTheir restless drift in search of convenient party platforms to execute their presidential run only belie the self-indulgent and opportunistic essence of their aspirations. Men without the staying power to build or fix their own parties, who flee at the slightest flicker of internal crisis cannot possibly be trusted by Nigerians to tackle serious and complex national political and economic challenges that confront our nation.Ā

ā€œPresident Bola Tinubu embodies character, vision, tenacity and doggedness required to deliver a resurgent Nigeria of stable growth and development. The administrationā€™s bold economic policy reforms and massive infrastructural uptake have already shattered historic barriers to growth, and paved the way for steady progress and development.Ā

ā€œWe urge Nigerians to stand fast in their invaluable support of our great Party and President Bola Tinubuā€™s determined commitment to deliver a stronger, secure and more prosperous country for us all.ā€
