Mikel Arteta has acknowledged Arsenal’s place in the Premier League title race after a dominant 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Following their narrow EFL Cup win against Palace earlier in the week, Arsenal delivered a more emphatic performance in south London.
Gabriel Jesus scored a brace before further goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and substitute Declan Rice completed the rout.

The result pushed them into third place with 33 points, trailing league leaders Liverpool by three points. However, Liverpool still have two games in hand, including a clash with Tottenham.
When asked about Arsenal’s title chances, Arteta offered a measured response. “We are not even halfway,” he said, but later admitted, “For us, it’s on.” His remarks reflected cautious optimism as the season approaches its midpoint.
Arteta praised his squad’s effort during the demanding week. “It’s never easy playing the same opponent twice in three days,” he told BBC Match of the Day. “Scoring five goals away from home is remarkable in this league.”
Arsenal’s victory marked their sixth time netting at least five away goals in all competitions this calendar year. The feat is an unprecedented one in Premier League history.
Central to Arsenal’s success was Jesus, whose brace followed his midweek hat-trick against the same opponent. The Brazilian striker came close to achieving consecutive trebles during his current red-hot form.
Arteta commended Jesus for his sharpness and determination. “You could see his readiness before the game,” the Arsenal boss noted. “When a player is in this momentum, he has to play.”
Despite the convincing win, Arsenal face challenges ahead, particularly with Saka’s injury. Nevertheless, the team’s recent performances simply showcases their credentials in what promises to be a thrilling title race.
As the Gunners continue their pursuit of silverware, Arteta’s side has to prove the doubters wrong. They’ve come close in the past two seasons and belief in the team may continue to fade away if they fail to win the league title this season.
The focus now shifts to maintaining consistency and overcoming setbacks as the Gunners aim for the title.
