Atiku raises alarm over alleged disinformation campaign, denies ADC meeting claims

Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has warned of what he described as a coordinated attempt to spread false information aimed at weakening his political standing and disrupting growing momentum within the African Democratic Congress.

The former Vice President made this known in a statement released on Tuesday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

He firmly rejected reports alleging that he recently held a meeting with national stakeholders of the ADC to discuss the 2027 general elections, branding the claims as false and deliberately misleading.

“At no time has the Waziri Adamawa held any such meeting with ADC stakeholders at the national level. His only recent engagement was with stakeholders in Adamawa State,” the statement read.

Atiku emphasised that any significant political move on his part would be officially communicated, not circulated through what he termed “anonymous leaks” or “faceless propaganda.”

According to him, the report is part of a calculated effort to sow confusion within opposition ranks and weaken emerging political alliances ahead of the next general elections.

“What is unfolding is not idle rumour—it is a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to create confusion and dampen the rising momentum within the ADC,” the statement added.

He reiterated his continued relevance in Nigeria’s political space, noting that many ongoing discussions and alignments are centred around him.

“Across the political landscape today, conversations, speculations, and alignments are converging, and more often than not, they are converging around Atiku Abubakar,” it stated.

Atiku described the heightened attention as evidence of his growing political influence, suggesting that it has unsettled certain interests.

He urged his supporters, ADC members, and Nigerians to ignore the claims and stay committed to efforts aimed at repositioning the country.

“This growing convergence has triggered panic among anti-democratic elements who now resort to crude propaganda in a desperate attempt to fracture a momentum they neither understand nor can contain.

“No amount of disinformation will halt this movement. The determination of Nigerians far outweighs the fear of those who have failed them,” it stated.
